ALLENTOWN, PA – May 14, 2020 – Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley recently received a $3,000 donation from the Cohen, Feeley, Altemose, & Rambo law firm to provide boxes of fresh food to patient families in need during the pandemic.

For eight weeks, NHCLV staff members will pick up goods from Crooked Row Farm in Orefield, and Arnolds Market in Bethlehem for the food boxes, which include fresh fruit and vegetables along with eggs. The boxes go to 20 patient families at NHCLV’s SouthSide Bethlehem and West Ward Easton community health centers, and feed over 60 people each week.

“NHCLV case managers and clinical social workers identified patient families who had expressed a need for food resources during the coronavirus pandemic,” said Julie Cohen, a nurse practitioner at NHCLV. “One of the responsibilities of our case managers is to understand the needs of our patients, including things like food insecurity and financial matters. So they reviewed files for patient families that would potentially need food assistance and reached out to them to offer the weekly food boxes.”

“We chose to donate the funds for the food boxes to NHCLV because we have been leaders in the Lehigh Valley for over 55 years, and there is no way that we would be able to succeed without our community,” said Martin D. Cohen, Founding and Managing Partner of Cohen, Feeley, Altemose & Rambo. “It is very important in difficult times like this when our firm is fortunate enough to still be working and providing a service that we can give back to our community and those that have helped us get to where we are. There is no reason that people should be going hungry or not have the supplies they need. We are always happy to help ensure that the lives of those in our community are just a little bit better.”

Based in Allentown, NHCLV was officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2004 with a goal of meeting the needs for a coordinated system of primary care for the uninsured and underinsured residents of the Lehigh Valley.  NHCLV operates community health centers in downtown Allentown, SouthSide Bethlehem, and West Ward Easton. All of their health centers are open to the general public and accept patients with or without health insurance. (NHCLV health centers are independent and not affiliated with any local health networks.)  www.nhclv.org
