Lehigh Valley Public Media Hosts Series of Virtual Screenings

Thanks to the County of Northampton’s Hotel Tax Program’s funding, PBS39 will run screenings monthly through December

 

Bethlehem, PA – August 4, 2020 -Lehigh Valley Public Media, home to PBS39 and WLVR News, has virtual screenings with live Q&A sessions set to begin in August and run through December. All films shown will be locally produced, with a goal to keep the community inspired and engaged while at home. A list of preliminary screenings and details are below.

Film:The Story of Musikfest

About: Join us for a virtual screening followed by an interactive Q&A session featuring key players in the Musikfest story. This PBS39 documentary gives a history of this international festival from its inception through the summer 2019 celebration. We are excited to work with ArtsQuest to bring you this documentary and discussion.

Special Guests:

  • Kassie Hilgert, President and CEO of ArtsQuest
  • Jeff Parks, Founder and former President of Musikfest
  • Paul Fistner, one of the original organizers of Musikfest

Film: Bethlehem Steel, The People Who Built America

About: Bethlehem Steel. You’ll find it in the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge, the stately U.S. Supreme Court building, New York City’s legendary skyline and the vivid memories of thousands of steelworkers. Bethlehem Steel, The People Who Built America chronicles more than 140 years of this once colossal company’s rich history as seen through the eyes of those who made steel.

  • Hank Barnette, former CEO of Bethlehem Steel
  • Don Cunningham, President and CEO of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation
  • Andria Zaia, Curator of Collections at the National Museum of Industrial History
  • Kara Mohsinger, President and CEO at the National Museum of Industrial History

Film:Forged In Steel

About: The original Bethlehem Steel Football Club was one of the most dominant teams in the history of the sport. This “super team” acted as a catalyst to establish soccer as a major sport in America. Forged in Steel tells the untold story of this team through the eyes of historians, soccer enthusiasts and super fans. Join us for this screening and discussion. Guests are still being confirmed.

  • Curt Mosel, Chief Operating Officer at ArtsQuest

Film:Hidden Seed: Bethlehem’s Forgotten Utopia

About: Dive into the hidden history of Bethlehem’s birth and the impact Moravians had on shaping the city. Hidden Seed shines light on our forebears’ lessons and the treasures that grow from our roots.

  • Bill George, Playwright and Co-founder of Touchstone Theatre

Film:Lehigh University Vespers Concert

About: This screening of Lehigh University’s Vesper’s concert is presented by the Lehigh University Choral Arts in historic Packer Memorial Chapel.The Christmas Vespers are an annual tradition at Lehigh; December 2019 marked the 150th year of this tradition that gives the gift of outstanding holiday classics and arrangements to the community.
