HARRISBURG, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-Lehigh, today announced a combined total of more than $144,000 in relief funding was awarded to two cultural organizations in Allentown through the COVID-19 Cultural and Museum Preservation Grant program for cultural organizations and museums to offset lost revenue caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grant awards are as follows:

  • Civic Theatre of Allentown Performing Arts Organization, $40,077.
  • DaVinci Science Center Science and Technology Center, $104,285.

“So many organizations have faced a tremendous strain, caused by the evolving uncertainties related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Schlossberg said. “I’m thrilled to see this will help DaVinci with its very important mission of bringing science to life in our community. I’m also pleased that the Civic Theatre is benefiting from the grant allocation, ensuring those with an interest in the performing arts can continue to have a viable place to gather.”

Schlossberg said that funds may be used to offset lost revenue for eligible cultural organizations and museums that were subject to closure by the proclamation of disaster emergency issued by the governor on March 6 and any renewal of the state of disaster emergency, and that experienced a loss of revenue related to the closure.

Funds cannot be used to offset revenue, which has already been offset from other sources, including philanthropic and federal, state, and local government sources.

Eligible cultural organizations or museums included children’s museums, general museums with at least two equally significant disciplines, history museums or historical sites, military or maritime museums, natural history museums, accredited zoos, planetariums, science and technology centers, orchestras, art museums and performing arts organizations.

More information about the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which awarded the funding, can be found on the Department of Community and Economic Development website.
