Board Member Cathy Coyne and the COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program partnership with Lehigh Valley Regional Homeless Advisory Board to be honored.

Bethlehem, PA (November 17, 2020)– The 2020 National Philanthropy Day Awards Program, hosted by the Association of Funding Professionals Eastern Pennsylvania (AFP of Eastern PA), will honor New Bethany Ministries board member Cathy Coyne with the Outstanding Community Volunteer Award. Additionally, the Lehigh Valley Regional Homeless Advisory Board (LVRHAB) with whom New Bethany is partnered, will be recognized with the Outstanding Collaboration Project during the virtual celebration on Wednesday, November 18 at 9 AM.

Cathy Coyne, Associate Professor of Practice in Public Health at Moravian College, joined New Bethany Ministries Board of Directors in 2017 and increased her volunteer hours in response to the COVID-19 volunteer loss. Since June, Coyne has volunteered in the kitchen every Thursday to prepare food for those in need. New Bethany nominated Coyne for this award to recognize her community advocacy. She currently holds a board position on New Bethany’s nomination committee, serves on the governing board of the LVRHAB and sits on the steering committee of the Lehigh Valley Food Policy Council.

“Cathy is a beloved part of the New Bethany community and we are thrilled that she is receiving this well-deserved recognition,” said Marc Rittle, Executive Director of New Bethany Ministries. “In addition, we thank the Association of Funding Professionals of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter for acknowledging the important work being done to combat homelessness. New Bethany is proud to collaborate with the Lehigh Valley RHAB’s efforts during COVID-19.”

In conjunction with the LVRHAB, New Bethany Ministries, Catholic Charities, Easton Area Neighborhood Center, The Lehigh Conference of Churches, ProJeCt of Easton, Third Street Alliance for Women & Children, Lehigh and Northampton counties, the cities of Bethlehem, Allentown, and Easton, and the District Magistrate Court system formed the COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program to prevent eviction and keep families from becoming homeless. The AFP of Easter PA is recognizing the work this partnership continues to address.
