WDIY 88.1 FM Names Classical Library After Beloved Volunteer

Janet Goloub was a very active volunteer in the Lehigh Valley Community. She was a classical music host and the librarian for WDIY Classics for 20 years. WDIY 88.1 FM is honoring her memory by naming its Classical Music Library after her.

Bethlehem, Pa.– March 23, 2017 – WDIY 88.1 FM announced that it is designating its Classical Music Library after dedicated volunteer, Janet Goloub.

Janet Goloub was born in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of the late Cecil and Gertrude (Brown) Adamson. Her young adult years were spent in Brooklyn, NY. A graduate of Brooklyn College, she moved to the Lehigh Valley in 1980 with her life partner Martin Boksenbaum.

Janet served on committees of the LEPOCO Peace Center, the Allentown Hiking Club, and the Lehigh Valley Arts Council. She was a music host and librarian of the classical music program, “WDIY Classics”, at WDIY 88.1 FM for 20 years. Janet was instrumental in shaping the format and quality of “WDIY Classics”. As its librarian she was responsible for maintaining the library and introducing new recordings and interpretations of classical music to our listeners. Her passion and deep knowledge of different periods of classical music was evident each time she hosted “WDIY Classics.”

“Janet was a soft-spoken yet staunch patron of classical music. She loved to listen to and review new recordings, then share her review with other classical music hosts. She kept the CDs organized and catalogued. We are grateful for her many years of leadership and dedicated service to WDIY. She is dearly missed.” said Karen El-Chaar, Board President of WDIY.

Wagner Previato, Executive Director of WDIY, remembers how much Janet cared about the Lehigh Valley, the station and classical music, “Janet was very much a no-nonsense type of person who you could count on to get the job done. She showed tremendous joy in sharing her knowledge of Classical music and her love for the Lehigh Valley and nature in general. Janet was a civic minded community member whose dedication to WDIY will always be remembered.”
