Dieruff High School’s Community Clean-Up Day

Allentown, PA (April 3, 2017)  On Saturday, April 8, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Dieruff High School will host their first ever Community Clean-Up Day at and around the school. More than 150 students from over 15 school clubs and teams will come together to work toward beautifying their school community. The plan is that this will become an annual school-wide event.

The exterior of the entire school campus – Main Entrances/Marquee/Front Parking Lot; Andre Reed Way; Gym Entrance/Back Parking Lot; Cedar Street, and the school Courtyard and Pond – will be part of the clean-up efforts.

Under the guidance of Dieruff teachers, advisors and coaches, students will rake leaves, mulch, and pick up litter, in their effort to beautify the school campus. Student groups will be assigned an area of work from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, then break for lunch. From 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., all student volunteers will work cleaning-up Dieruff’s Courtyard and Pond. The hope is that after the area is cleared that the Courtyard could be developed into an outdoor classroom area.

The school has collected “loaner tools” like rakes, shovels and wheel barrels and secured donations of gardening supplies to support the project. Anyone interested in donating supplies can contact Dieruff teacher, Dan Jurasits at jurasitsd@allentownsd.org.

Dieruff High School is located at 815 North Irving Street, Allentown.
