Provident Bank Foundation Awards Grant to Help Meal Subsidies

(BETHLEHEM) – Meals On Wheels of Northampton County has received a $3,500 grant from the Provident Bank Foundation to benefit the nonprofit organization’s Meal Subsidy Program.

Darlene Funesti, branch manager for the bank’s Madison Farms Shopping Center branch in Bethlehem Township, recently presented Director of Development Tom Harper with the grant award.

The Meal Subsidy Program ensures that every home-bound senior and adult with disabilities who needs meals will be served promptly without regard to his/her ability to pay. (The majority of our clients pay something toward the cost of their meals, based upon a sliding fee scale.). We currently subsidize meals by $1.10 per meal for nearly 4 out of 5 clients who currently fall at or below the poverty line.

As demand for our meals has increased – we now produce 24 percent more meals than we did just four years ago – the Meal Subsidy Program helps to ensure that no client goes hungry or goes on a waiting list.

The Provident Bank Foundation has granted more than $22 million to nonprofit organizations and institutions since its inception in 2003, according to the Foundation’s Web site.

Meals On Wheels of Northampton County is a private, nonprofit organization that has supported healthy living through the delivery of nutrition services since 1972. We provide meals and smiles for more than 1,500 seniors and adults with disabilities each year. In 2017, we expect to prepare more than 565,000 hot and cold, medically tailored meals for our clients as well as three Meals On Wheels organizations, all Senior Centers in Lehigh County, ProJeCt of Easton’s day care and the Bethlehem YMCA’s adult day care.
