Groube, Cumming Golden at Valley Preferred Cycling Center on Friday Night

Groube, Cumming Prove Golden in 11th Annual Golden Wheel Race

TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – It started late after a one-hour rain delay, the third straight World Series of Bicycling event affected by weather, but the 11th Annual Golden Wheel Race and first-ever Beerfest on the VeloDeck turned out to be a golden night at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center.

Due to the large men’s field, there were two heats of 3km scratch races to start the night with the top 10 in each heat qualifying for the men’s 5 lap golden wheel race at night’s end. At the end it was Carne Groube of New Zealand who won the men’s golden wheel race.

Emma Cumming of New Zealand won the women’s 4 lap edition and Matthew Harrison of New York won the stagiaires 4 lap version.

Although Cumming proved victorious in the women’s golden wheel event, it was Colleen Gulick who won the women’s overall omnium by way of a tiebreaker over teammate Anita Stenberg of Norway.

Tom Rotherham of Great Britain accumulated the most points in the men’s omnium while Harrison won the stagiaires omnium battle and Brean Shea of New York won the Legends omnium competition.
