PBS39 Parent Company Enters into Agreement with Independence Public Media

Bethlehem, Pa. — December 13, 2017 — PBS39, the community-owned public television station serving eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, announced that Independence Public Media, the parent company of WYBE-MindTV, has entered into an agreement with Lehigh Valley Public Telecommunications Corporation (LVPTC), the parent company of WLVT-PBS39. Inclusive of this agreement, Independence Public Media will donate the WYBE broadcast license to LVPTC.

The assignment of WYBE’s license to LVPTC is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In the interim, LVPTC will be providing certain services to WYBE, such as master control and technical support.

In April 2017, Independence Public Media announced it was relinquishing its broadcast spectrum as part of the FCC Broadcast Incentive Auction. As part of the Broadcast Incentive Auction, the FCC has purchased licenses from TV broadcasters to make spectrum available for wireless broadband use.

Subsequent to its April 2017 announcement, Independence Public Media has entered into a channel sharing arrangement with LVPTC. This arrangement will begin on January 5, 2018 and will result in WYBE remaining on air with MHz Worldview on channel 35.1 and WORLD on channel 35.2.
