MR. SIPP KEPT IT ROLLING

As part of the ArtsQuest’s Southside Arts & Music Festival  concert go-ers  were in for a real treat at the MusikFest Café Friday night, with the return of the Mississippi Blues Child, Mr. Sipp.

With funky intros, and speeding tempos many in attendance were divided.  It was a tough call to sit and take it all in, or rise from the chair to join the party on the dance floor and really cut loose.

Sipp loves to dance.  He covered the stage and added a few dance steps here and there.  Whether it was a little horsey trot, or a little of the Charleston, or  Chuck Berry’s duck walk, he grooved to the beats and genuinely had a great time.

During “Miss Jones”, Sipp needed to cover more ground as he left the stage and walked through the entire crowd of the Café, during an electrifying guitar solo which lasted over 15 minutes.

Crowd favorites of the night were “Dimples” (Johnny Lee Hooker), and “Ain’t Nobody’s Business” which included Sipp and the bass guitarist in a synchronized dance.

There were a couple of songs from his new release, a nearly instrumental piece called “Free”.   Sipp explained to the audience, “We need more love in the world, it’s all about the love.”

The show ended with “Little Wing” and “The Star Spangled Banner”, and it was indeed, a good time had by all.
