May 10, 2018, Allentown, PA – Friends and supporters helped ASD Foundation (ASDF) raise more than $140,000 at its 8th Annual HIGH NOTES Gala on March 24. This annual event showcases the numerous talents of the District’s middle school and high school students. In addition, in-kind contributions exceeded $10,000.
Kurt D. Zwikl, ASD Foundation President, remarked that, “We are trying very hard to direct more funding into ASD classrooms and its facilities so our programs can benefit Allentown’s children. The community understands what our brand represents, and knowing this, the entire City stands to benefit.”
Susan L. Williams, Executive Director, pointed out that, “We view this event as the major cultural event for and by the Foundation each year. HIGH NOTES supports our vision of providing enriched educational opportunities for our students. We thank Gala Chair Deb Roberson and the dozens of volunteers who make this event the pride and joy of the Foundation.”
The theme of the Gala production was ‘One World’ to emphasize that the District’s students represent more than 50 countries. The cast included more than 120 students from William Allen High School, Louis E. Dieruff High School, and Trexler, Harrison-Morton, South Mountain and Raub Middle Schools. It was a performance revue featuring vignettes from the school’s musicals and music from some of Allentown’s best student performance groups: the Canary Cavaliers Jazz Band, the WAHS Dance Academy, Dieruff’s Select Choir, Dieruff Jazz Band, Dieruff’s Spittin’ Truth (spoken word group), WAHS Chorale and Silver Strings.
Continuing ASDF’s mission of supporting the arts, a total of $32,000 of net proceeds was awarded to these groups in appreciation for their Gala performances.
