When inspiration leads to action…

One man inspired by an article started a petition to show how much the Lehigh Valley area is in need of, and would support a transit rail system.

Shawn Walters lives in Phillipsburg with his 3 children, ages 8, 5 and 2 for about four years now. He relocated from Central NJ for a job opportunity in the Lehigh Valley.

He also moved there because of all the family friendly events and attractions. He traverses the valley every chance he gets. His family loves that there is so much to do throughout the Lehigh Valley.

He and many others would really like to see train service primarily so everyone could enjoy daytrips in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton without the need to drive everywhere.

Shawn believes it is more convenient; not to have to worry about traffic or parking. It also taps into the walkability of the downtown areas of Easton and Bethlehem that have been budding. Mr. Walters said, “It would be great to catch a train to visit downtown, Dorney Park or Coca Cola Park and just hang out for the day.”

He also cites many other reasons why a rail transit system would benefit the area. It would make it easier to visit family in New York and New Jersey. It would be an excellent alternative for commuters into NY and Philly. It gives people more options. He also thinks it would make fares more competitive, benefiting the daily riders. Additional benefits include making travel easier for the 50,000 college students in the area, connecting transportation access to Lehigh Valley International Airport making that a competing airport for NY and Philly fliers.

Surely, there are many other reasons a public rail system would benefit our region. If you believe a public rail system is a much-needed asset to our area please visit the petition Shawn started and show your support by signing it today!
