ANNUAL LVPC AWARDS EVENT TO HONOR REGION’S BEST IN PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT



Event keynote speaker played key role in development of

Hoover Mason Trestle and public plaza at SteelStacks campus

 

ALLENTOWN, PA – September 11, 2015 The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission will honor the region’s best in public, private and non-profit planning and development at the 2nd Annual Lehigh Valley Planning & Development Gala and Awards on Thursday, October 1 at the University Center at DeSales University in Center Valley.

The evening event will be highlighted by a keynote speech by international landscape architecture expert and urban designer Ignacio Bunster-Ossa, FASLA, LEED AP. He was the principle in charge of the public plaza at the SteelStacks Arts and Cultural Campus and Levitt Pavilion in Bethlehem and also the new Hoover Mason Trestle. A recipient of numerous design awards, Ossa’s work is noted for the design integration of green infrastructure, community engagement, and public art. Ossa will speak about communities that are development friendly, environmentally balanced, and economically sustainable.

The awards are judged on originality and innovation; compatibility with the community; effectiveness and results; how the community was engaged, and transferability of the project, plan or ordinance. A panel of judges has selected this year’s winners and honorees from candidates in each of the following categories:

  • Plan, planning policy or ordinance
  • Land development
  • Open space project or initiative
  • Environmental or revitalization project or initiative
  • Transportation project or initiative
  • Multi-municipal cooperation project or initiative
  • Community of Distinction for a strong commitment to quality and effective planning and development over time

Winners and honorees are confidential until announced the night of the event.

The event begins at 4 p.m. with a networking cocktail reception followed by the program, keynote speech and dinner starting at 5 p.m., and the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m.
