BETHLEHEM, PA (January 18, 2019)– The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts), located at 321 East 3rd Street, presents its production of She Kills Monsters written by Qui Nguyen, from January 18-20, 2019.   There will be evening performances on January 18th and 19th at 7 PM, and a matinee performance on January 20th at 2 PM.  (If any shows are canceled due to weather, notifications will be listed on the school’s website, www.CharterArts.org.)

She Kills Monsters is a comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games and tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge.

This production is directed by the school’s Guest Director of Theatre, Christopher “Rip” Cantelmi, who says that the audience can expect to experience colorful characters, fast-paced action, 90’s nostalgia, swordplay, wild leaps of logic, fantastic magical creatures, heart-warming realizations and….FUN.

“I wanted a play that focused on themes relevant to teenagers,” says Cantelimi. “Through this material, I was able to begin a conversation with our students based on my experience as a teenager in the 1990’s (the play is set in 1995) and how that relates to their experience at present,”

“There is some strong language and themes, but the play is relevant to teens and adults who have ever sought to escape reality through imaginative play or struggled with the reality of love, loss, and identity. At the core, this play has heart and is a sincere look into a young girl’s tragic loss and her redemptive journey to enlightenment, “says Cantelmi.

Tickets are $5-$13 and are available online at www.CharterArts.org or at the door.
