PURCHASING BUREAU MEETING WITH CONTRACTORS

The City of Allentown Purchasing Bureau is scheduling an information session for Lehigh Valley contractors.  They are invited to attend a presentation and participate in an open dialogue on Thursday, July 18 at 9:00am in City Council Chambers.

“The session is an opportunity for contractors to discuss concerns, issues and benefits of working with the city,” said Allentown Purchasing Agent Jessica Baraket.  Facilities Manager Ted Berger will be on hand to meet with contractors and answer their questions.”

The city’s Building Maintenance Bureau is responsible for maintaining more than 110 individual city-owned buildings.

There are a variety of trade services, like roof and garage door repairs, that the city is not able to handle in-house and seeks the services of outside contractors.

These services are subject to standard procurement rules and bidding requirements therefore it is important that vendors understand how to receive bid notifications and how to respond to the solicitation.  The session will allow contractors to gain an understanding of the procurement process in the City of Allentown, while discussing and addressing any previous concerns they may have had with prior administrations or processes.

The city spent $35,000 on garage door repairs and $25,000 on roof repairs last year.

Baraket said, “The Lehigh Valley is filled with contractors who do great work.  We want to ensure that local vendors are bidding on city projects to ensure we get the greatest value for taxpayer dollars without having to look outside the region.”

City staff will also explain how to register to receive automated bid notifications from the city and how to respond to a solicitation.  The city’s Purchasing Department utilizes a free automated vendor/bidder notification process called “Public Purchase.”  All vendors are required to register and participate in this electronic system to receive automated bid notification from the city for the purchase of supplies, materials, services and equipment.

Seating is limited, so advance registration is required.  Registration can be done by emailing Purchasing.agent@allentownpa.gov or by calling 610-437-7624.
