Lehigh Valley Sports Hall of Fame High School Player of the Week Awards – 9/7/2014

“Recognizing the past, promoting youth growth” is the mantra of the Lehigh Valley Sports Hall of Fame established in 2009 to acknowledge the great athletes, coaches, directors of the Lehigh Valley while sponsoring under-served youth and young adults in mentoring, music and sports programs. lvsportshalloffame.com fundraising events raise monies for sports equipment, high school and college scholar athletes.

This year is the first year for weekly recognition for high school and college athletes from a seven county area in all sports played.

Here they are:

FOOTBALL Defensive Player of the Week Omar Haddad, Parkland Senior. All-Purpose Player of the week Jake Young, Sr. Freedom fumble recovery, TD catch and 87 yard kick-off return. His younger brother sophomore of the week QB Joe Young 10-11 passing 2 TD passes 1 rushing.

BIG SCHOOL QB OF THE WEEK Travis Edmonds of Southern Lehigh on his school record for passing. RB Shakur Lester 14-128 yards Dieruff Sr. winning TD over East Stroudsburg North.

BLOCKER OF THE WEEK Whitehall Jake Buskirk, fullback.

COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Gianni Sinatore Zephys QB. Jr. QB of the Week Zach Thatcher Saucon Valley 9-9 4 TD passes in 35-6 over Northern Lehigh. Tre Nelson, CLUTCH PLAYER OF THE WEEK Tre Nelson Palmerton winning TD 21-19 win over Pen Argyl. Kicker of the Week Conor Ilgenfritz Whitehall winning extra point.

SMALL SCHOOL BACK OF THE WEEK Harry hall, Northwestern 174 yds rushing 2 Td’s.

CO-MVP GIRLS SOCCER Stroudsburg Bria Bittiger 3 goals and 100th LaSalle bound 5-1 win over East Stroudsburg South. Nazareth Brie Ludwig in 3-2 OT win over Easton.

BOYS SOCCER Kevyn Mitchell of Wilson, 2 goals in 3-1 win over PenArgyl.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY BIG SCHOOL Pleasant Valley’s Seth Slavin 16:29 SMALL SCHOOL Wilson’s Joe Espinal 16:25. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Mikayla Stoudt 19:30 of Parkland.

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS Freedom’s Flannery Johnston in 5-2 win over ESSouth.

BIG SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL Kristin Krause, Parkland 7 aces, 16 assists, 15 service points.

GOLF Nick Maff 71 for Bethlehem Catholic

CO-MVP FIELD HOCKEY Northern Lehigh Jessica Olewine and Catasauqua’s Quinn Bachman both scored 2 goals big
