Crowds Thrill to the Speed of the UCI U.S. Sprint Grand Prix at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center

(June 21, 2019) Trexlertown, PA.  Sprinters owned the day as the Valley Preferred Cycling Center held the 7th and penultimate day of UCI racing of the 2019 June meet at the C1 U.S. Sprint Grand Prix.

The race action was thunderous at the VPCC with deep sprint and endurance fields featuring athletes from 19 nations vying to make the evening finals. Morning qualifying heats saw many of last week’s favorites eliminated while a mix of local heroes and riders with emerging speed and form stepped up to earn rides in one the most exciting night sessions of 2019.

Hometown star, Mandy Marquardt riding for Team Novo Nordisk, nabbed her first UCI win of 2019 proving that she is bringing great form into Elite Nationals. Sam Webster of New Zealand saw another dominant win over silver medalist Lehigh Hoffman – both of whom survived intense qualification rounds to fight it out under the lights.

In the Points race, Regan Gough, lapped the field twice showing why he is a former World Champion in the Team Pursuit and confirming the great form he’s exhibited throughout the season to date. The women’s Points Race was made exceptionally challenging by the strong winds that kept the field together before local racer Colleen Gulick, riding a very cagey race, ultimately emerged victorious.
