Brenda K. Starr & Optima – Dancing into Summer

The Sabor Latin Festival 2019

June 22, 2019 at Musikfest Café presented by Yuengling

The second day of the start of summer was hot. It had to do with the salsa, bachata and, the merengue taking over. The Sabor Latin Festival took over the Musikfest Café and Levitt Pavillion on this beautiful sunny day. It was crowded everywhere you went and outside you got a glimpse at all the different dancers and you could listen to the beautiful bands playing a variety of Latin music.

They had a little bit of everything for all ages. The kids were able to play tennis and also attend the concerts held outside as well as in the Musikfest Café. They had tennis set up for the kids courtesy of the Community Outreach Program.

They brought some old school and new school. You saw people of all ages dancing and having fun. If anything, music is certainly the most universal thing in all the universe. It brings smiles and happiness out in everyone.

OPTIMO opened for Brenda K. Starr. They were engaged and so inviting with the crowd. They sang for about an hour and got the crowd ready for Starr. There is so much soul and compassion in the music. You can tell they truly love what they do.

So, now it is time. Time for the legendary New Yorker Brenda K. Starr to take the stage at Musikfest Café and she danced her way through this incredible show. Brenda sang some of her newer music off her new album, “Redencion.” She also took us back to some old school songs including “Sola.”

Starr kept the audience captivated and included everyone in everything from making sure we sang along and danced and “have fun with her.” She has been in this industry for a long time and she certainly puts on a good show.

Starr was born and raised in New York. She asked the audience several times where everyone was from. She thanked the crowd for coming several times. She moved across the stage with grace and was having fun. This show was lively and you could feel the good energy as much as Starr could. She emphasized that many times, she could feel all the good energy. She told brief stories about singing in the stairwell of her building for the good acoustics and her band was incredible. Brenda had fun playing the drums along with her drummer. She kept the crowds attention. That is for sure. The crowd was enamored and thrilled when sang, “Sola.” Her background singers were so good. They joined her for duets and also engaged with the crowd. This show was filled with good energy. People were singings, dancing and having so much fun. As usual the Musikfest café staff was so helpful. They are efficient and organized. They will assist you if you need help with anything. All you have to do is ask.

This show gave us some time to forget worries and just “dance the night away.”

Brenda K. Starr who has a new album “Redencion” appeared at the Musikfest Café located in Bethlehem, PA. The Sabor Latin Festival was held June 21-June 23 in which featured such guests as: Herencia Jibara, Pablo Batista’s Latin Jazz Ensemble with special guest Nestor Torres, Hector Rosado y su Orquesta Ache, Hector el Father: Conoceras la verdad, Pancho Bongo Y Su Orquesta, Los Hermanos Morena and JD & su Grupo En Secuencia.
