From decadent Belgian waffles to Spanish-style cuisine by James Beard winner José Andrés, guests will find plenty of new ’fest favorites from among 10 new food vendors
BETHLEHEM, PA—When Musikfest returns for its 36th year Aug. 2-11, Bethlehem will welcome 40 unique food vendors offering both new treats and crowd favorites for festival fans. This year, the lineup features 10 new vendors that will serve up enticing complements to the ‘classic’ foods of the ‘fest. Whether you’re looking for a Belgian waffle smothered in Nutella and bananas from Waffle de Lys of New Jersey, or a delicious Philly cheesesteak from Wiz Kidz of Bethlehem to go with your full Musikfest mug, these new vendors are here to satisfy.
Highlighting this year’s list of new vendors is José Andrés’ La Pepa, operating out of a 1963 Airstream on Provident Bank Main Street. Twice named one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People” and awarded “Outstanding Chef” and “Humanitarian of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation, Andrés is an internationally-recognized culinary innovator, New York Times bestselling author, educator, television personality, humanitarian and chef and owner of ThinkFoodGroup.
La Pepa, which began as a spinoff of Andrés’ beloved Pepe food truck, offers a variety of specialty sandwiches including the ever-famous Pollo Frito (breaded fried chicken, lettuce, piparra peppers, garlic aioli, spicy tomato sauce served on olive oil brioche), along with a Spanish Style Pulled Pork sandwich (pork in a spicy tomato sauce with Spanish slaw on ciabatta), and a Grilled Cheese Flauta (goat, bleu and manchego cheeses).
Appearing at music festivals like Rolling Loud in Miami and KAABOO Del Mar in California, Meltdown Gourmet of Schnecksville is up to the task of serving unique takes on the classic cheesesteak including its ‘Veggiliscious’ vegetarian cheesesteak featuring pan-fried tempeh, sautéed onions, peppers and aged cheddar sauce, while Waffle de Lys, located at IBEW Local 375 Volksplatz, offers authentic Belgian waffles featuring ingredients imported from France and Belgium. ArtsQuest’s Levy culinary team at SteelStacks is also bringing a dynamic mix of offerings to the Musikfest grounds, including gourmet, wood-fired pizzas handcrafted in its portable brick oven at Guardian Insurance Company of America Zinzenplatz.
