Story & Photographs by Diane Fleischman

Grab your Musikfest mug, and lawn chair if you’d like, Musikfest kicked off Friday for it’s 36th year in Bethlehem. This reporter visited on Saturday, the day was sunny and hot, while weather reports indicated ‘hit or miss’ thunderstorms thankfully, and it was a total miss.

Some of the highlights included: performances at Martin Guitars and Strings, Stephen Babcock pictured, The Shinbone Alley Stilt Band, Alpha Zero Three.

The art installation this year is Prismatica, pivoting prisms that create a kaleidoscope effect, covering every color possible in the spectrum. As the prisms are spun, it is a visual symphony of lights and colorful reflections.

Over at the ME TV booth, actor and theatre star Barry Williams was on hand. You might also remember him from The Brady Bunch, as Greg Brady. He graciously spoke to many fans and provided a photo op.

Over at the Hotel Bethlehem Platz, The Slicked Up Nine’s drew a large crowd. A Musikfest favorite, their music uniquely covers big band swing, jazz and R&B. Over at the Levitt Pavilion, Humming House, from Nashville, TN rocked the crowd.

Musikfest wouldn’t be complete without sampling some of the great food offered.

A couple worth considering, which also held longer lines were Take a Taco, and Baby Blues BBQ,. There’s something for everyone to be found, whether it’s a sweet treat of a Strawberry Shortcake Sundae, or the more traditional Fest choice of an Aw-Shucks ear of corn.
