ALLENTOWN CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Allentown will host a myriad of celebrations of Hispanic Heritage from September 15 – October 15, 2019.

The Department of Community & Economic Development is partnering with representatives from Allentown City Council, the Allentown Human Relations Commission, Allentown School District, Lehigh Carbon Community College, the Cultural Coalition of Allentown, The Rilyc, and Lehigh Valley Baptist Church to put together a calendar of events to celebrate a variety of aspects of Hispanic culture.

The month will kick-off with a celebration in the Allentown Arts Park on Sunday, September 15, from 3:00 p.m.– 7:00 p.m., featuring music, food and dancing.

The popular Third Thursdays program on September 19 and the Free Fun Sunday program on Sunday, October 13 at Allentown Art Museum will offer Latino artists and performers and film screenings.

Stevens Park will be the site of a Bomba Night on Friday, September 20 from 6:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m., coordinated by the Puerto Rican Culture Preservation Organization.

A Tango Performance Exhibition can be seen during Allentown ArtsFest on Sunday, September 29, through an Artist-in-Residence program funded by the Cultural Coalition of Allentown.

The culminating event of the celebration – “Tango All Night” will be held on Thursday, October 17 from 5:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m., with the final location to be determined.

“Allentown has a wealth of talent from residents of many cultures,” said Mayor Ray O’Connell.  “We will be featuring the talents of our Hispanic community to our residents and visitors over the month-long course of the celebration.”
