Ranked in Top Twenty in State of Pennsylvania

(Allentown, PA)- Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center was recently ranked as one of the country’s best nursing facilities, and one of the top facilities in the State of Pennsylvania.

Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center was ranked as the 20th best nursing facility in Pennsylvania. Newsweek awarded only 39 Pennsylvania homes the title of “Best Nursing Homes 2020.” There are currently 700 nursing homes in the state of Pennsylvania.

“We’re extremely proud of the work of our Cedarbrook Allentown and Fountain Hill staff. Cedarbrook’s position as a premier skilled nursing facility not only in Pennsylvania, but throughout the United States is a testament to the quality of the care we provide, and the commitment of our local leaders to continually improve the facility,” said Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong.

Newsweek’s Best Nursing Homes 2020 edition evaluated over 15,000 nursing facilities across the United States in 20 states, finding only 406 unique award-winners from that evaluation. Facilities were evaluated based on a variety of factors including a reputation score, staffing levels, quality measures (which includes actual clinical data) and health inspections.

The reputation score was the result of inviting over 46,000 medical experts ranging from registered nurses to nursing home managers to physicians to participate in an online survey. Newsweek also weighted different Nursing Home Compare scores from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) available to the general public to evaluate the quality of care offered by each facility.

Cedarbrook’s CMS Nursing Home Compare scores have consistently found the facility getting earning “above average” ratings despite the financial challenges of operating a County nursing home providing complex care to a population that largely relies on Medical Assistance.

“The State of Pennsylvania and indeed the nation as a whole is graying with complex medical diagnoses, and also living longer despite those diagnoses with the advances in modern medicine. The mission of nursing facilities like Cedarbrook has never been more important, and the importance of ensuring they remain for future generations has never been more obvious. These homes are more than just medical care, but also communities that facilitate new friendships and fun,” said Jason Cumello, NHA, MBA and Cedarbrook Administrator.

In the year 2030, 20% of the United States will be 65 years or older and 70% of them will require long-term care according to the Newsweek ranking. Lehigh County is currently undertaking phase 1 of the Cedarbrook renovation which calls for the construction of a $46.7 million-dollar new “E-wing,” which will be completely modern with various amenities.
