ALLENTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION needsvolunteers to help kindergartners with reading skills. Next training session is Tuesday, October 29 from 2-3pm at Jackson Elementary Childhood Center, 517 N. 15 St. Park on street or shopping center lot nearby. BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown seeks volunteers to be mentors “Bigs” for children “Littles” in their After-School Mentoring Program. “Bigs” and “Littles” spend time on creative arts projects, recreation, health/nutrition, math games, and more; no math, computer, or tutoring skills needed. Volunteer on Thursdays from 3:30-5pm. All volunteers will complete an interview, need references, pass background checks, and receive training. GREATER VALLEY YMCA, Bethlehem needs a volunteer Cook/Server for Community Supper Program for youths ages 18 and under. Primary responsibilities include proper preparation/cooking of all food items in a safe, timely manner maintaining high quality of food preparation. Meal prep and serving meals must be done in accordance with CACFP requirements. Must clean up after meals. Previous experience is preferred. Hours are 3:30-6:30pm Monday-Friday. Volunteers assist children with homework, school projects, reading, math, and enrichment activities. Participate as little as one time per month or as often as program meets. SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Nazareth – Backpack Buddies, a kid-friendly nutrition program needs volunteers. Help assemble backpacks on Friday, October 25 from 8:30-11:30am. Tasks include assembling packages of food and organizing/loading packages. Volunteers should feel comfortable standing, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs. Close-toed shoes are required. SIXTH STREET SHELTER, Allentown needsa volunteer to be a Front Desk Greeter. Greet visitors/residents and make sure they sign in; assist residents with completing necessity request forms or holiday wish lists; call residents to communicate when necessities are ready for pick-up or remind them of upcoming events; and assist Office Administrator with printing, filing, and other tasks as needed.
