CEDARBROOK SENIOR CARE AND REHAB, Fountain Hill has a volunteer opportunity for people to escort residents (push wheelchairs) around at their Holiday Bazaar on Friday, November 15 between 9:30am-2pm. Assist residents as they shop for hand-made crafts, baked goods, gift items, and more. Table helpers are also needed. Volunteers are asked to sign up for at least two hours. COMMUNITY BIKE WORKS, Allentown needs instructors for their Earn-a-Bike program at their East Side facility. This program teaches students (ages 9-17) basic bike mechanics and safety over a 12-week course. It is a 6-8pm commitment one night a week. No mechanical experience necessary. Mentors aid students as they fix their bike and learn communication and teamwork skills. Upon course completion, students earn their refurbished bike and a new helmet. GUARDIANSHIP SUPPORT AGENCY, INC., Allentown needs individuals/groups/or families to spend time with people who are residing in assisted living facilities or skilled nursing facilities. Activities could include playing cards, board games, sitting outside, or just chatting since many of our clients do not have regular/consistent visitors. GREATER VALLEY YMCA, Bethlehem is looking for volunteers to set-up/break-down the venue for the World Diabetes Day, Thursday, November 14 from 10am-8pm. This event is free and open to the public and intended to provide resources on healthy eating and healthy living. Help is needed prior to the event, during the event, and after the event. HOLIDAY HOPE CHESTS need volunteers to donate wrapped shoeboxes filled with age appropriate items for Lehigh Valley’s children in need. Suggested gift lists are provided on our website. This program, coordinated by the Volunteer Center, is a great project for large/small groups, clubs, classes, families, and individuals. NORTHEAST COMMUNITY CENTER, Bethlehem needs volunteers to assist with food distribution on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 5-7pm. Tasks include helping clients choose food items, bagging food items, organizing shelves, and moving products between the storage and distributions. PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY THERAPY DOGS, INC., Kutztown seeks volunteers with therapy dogs to visit residents of various nursing homes throughout the Lehigh Valley area. SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Nazareth is looking for groups to volunteer with packing SUNShine Boxes, packages of supplemental food for low income seniors each month. Help pack boxes on an assembly line, organize/load pallets, make boxes, break down boxes, and sweep. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and be comfortable lifting to 40 lbs.
