Bethlehem, PA. – November 18, 2019 – Lehigh Valley Public Media™, home of PBS39, is partnering with Lafayette College’s Policy Studies Program on the creation of an educational broadcast exploring artificial intelligence (AI). This project was created throughout the fall semester by students under the direction of PBS39.

“Education is at the heart of everything we do,” Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media said. “This partnership looks to the future in two major ways. We have the chance to have a direct impact on the students involved in this program, plus, the content will inform an even larger audience of members of our community.”

Lehigh Valley Public Media team members, including Chief Content Officer Yoni Greenbaum, Executive Producer Monica Evans and Director of Production Javier Diaz, along with members of the Reporter Corps®, helped develop and produce the program. Throughout this project, public policy students had the opportunity to serve as producers, talent, camera and audio operators.

“This has been an extremely rewarding experience,” Monica Evans, PBS39 Executive Producer said. “I am so impressed by these students. I enjoyed watching them come up with ways to explain how AI affects our lives. They are forward thinkers and I am excited for their future.”

The wide-ranging impact of AI on people and the planet is one of the most important and complex challenges of our time. This broadcast examines the risks and pitfalls of this new technology when the capacity for moral authority is transferred to algorithms and those who create them.

“Lafayette Lens Looks at AI” will premiere at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19 on PBS39. Check your local listings to find the channel over the air, or on your cable or satellite provider.
