Grants Available to Nonprofit Organizations Serving Carbon County

United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley invites nonprofit organizations to apply for funding to serve Carbon County 

Allentown, PA, December 12, 2019 – United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) invites nonprofit organizations to apply for funding to serve the residents of Carbon County.

“United Way fights for the health and education of all residents, and we are dedicated to supporting our Carbon County community,” said Jill Pereira, Vice President, Education and Impact, UWGLV. “We are currently investing more than $118,000 in Carbon County, including $55,000 in grants to partner agencies. By engaging community and corporate partners and working together strategically and effectively, we will level the playing field and provide opportunity for all.”

Organizations can apply for amounts between $500 and $10,000, with the average grant award estimated at $2,000. Funding is available for the program year beginning July 1, 2020 to support high-quality programs and services focused on increasing:

  • Supports for persons with disabilities
  • Access to healthy food
  • Access to affordable housing
  • And support for grade-level reading, including access to kindergarten readiness, school-age programming and integrated behavioral health supports in school settings

The Invitation for Applications is available at www.unitedwayglv.org/carbon. Applications must be submitted via email to UWGLV c/o Mary Widmer at maryw@unitedwayglv.org by no later than 5 p.m. on January 31, 2020.

United Way will hold two training sessions to help applicants with questions at Lehigh Carbon Community College Jim Thorpe (1100 Center Street, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229):

  • Monday, December 16, 2019 – 9 to 10 m.
  • Tuesday, December 17, 2019 – 1 to 2 m.

Applicants will be notified of final funding decisions in June 2020.
