BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown seeks volunteers to be mentors “Bigs” for children “Littles” in their After-School Mentoring Program. “Bigs” and “Littles” spend time on creative arts projects, recreation, health/nutrition, math games, and more; no math, computer, or tutoring skills needed. Volunteer on Thursdays from 3:30-5pm. All volunteers will complete an interview, need references, pass background checks, and receive training. COMPEER OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Bethlehem seeks volunteers willing to be a friend to someone in need in Lehigh and Northampton Counties. Volunteers are matched with a member who is in stable mental health recovery to spend a minimum of four hours a month engaging in activities they both enjoy (talking, walking, playing cards, etc.).   A similar program Compeer Corps is also looking for peer mentors for service members to enhance their self-esteem, reduce dependency, and create a strong/supportive environment. Provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, or to visit a loved one in a nursing home. Choose times, days, and areas you wish to drive. PHOEBE HEALTH CARE CENTER, Allentown is looking for volunteers to bring the Holiday spirit to Phoebe by helping with various Christmas parties to do set-up/clean-up, transport, and serve food. Help is also needed for their Bingo Marathon from 12/26 through 1/1/20 from 1-5pm. Volunteers will help transport and assist residents who have vision and hearing difficulty. PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY THERAPY DOGS, INC., Kutztown seeks volunteers with therapy dogs to visit residents of various nursing homes throughout the Lehigh Valley area. SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Nazareth needs volunteers to help pack boxes on an assembly line, organizing and loading pallets, making boxes, breaking down boxes and sweeping. Volunteers should feel comfortable with lifting a maximum of 40 lbs. and must wear closed-toed shoes. Help is needed Tuesdays, January 7, 21, and 28 from 8:30am-12:30pm.
