ALLENTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION needs volunteers to read to kindergartners (and some 1st graders) in classrooms across the city. Two spring training sessions are scheduled for Thursday, January 30 and Thursday, February 27 from 1:30-2:30pm at Jackson Elementary Childhood Center, 517 N. 15th St. Street parking is available. All volunteers must obtain required background clearances, and info for that will be provided at the sessions. Actual reading demonstration to a kindergartner is included in session. CEDARBROOK SENIOR CARE AND REHAB, Allentown and Fountain Hill is looking for volunteers to come and help their residents enjoy a Super Bowl Party, Sunday, February 2 from 5:35-9pm. Escort residents (pushing wheelchairs, as needed) to main activity room to watch the game on a huge screen, help staff serve light snacks, and escort residents back to their rooms after the game. GUARDIANSHIP SUPPORT AGENCY, INC., Allentown needs individuals/groups/or families to spend time with people who are residing in assisted living facilities or skilled nursing facilities. Activities could include playing cards, board games, sitting outside, or just chatting since many of our clients do not have regular/consistent visitors. LEHIGH VALLEY HOSPICE, Allentown is recruiting for caring volunteers in Carbon and Luzerne Counties due to expansion of their services in these areas. Bilingual skills are a plus. As a volunteer, your support may include: companionship for the patient, respite for primary caregivers, emotional support for families, bereavement support services, and assist with errands or “light” household tasks. LEHIGH VALLEY ZOO, Schnecksville is looking for volunteers (age 13+) who love animals, want to meet members of the local community, and want to have fun while contributing to a great cause to be General Zoo Volunteers. The Zoo is open 7 days a week from 10am-3pm (Nov-Mar) and 10am-4pm (Apr-Oct). MEALS ON WHEELS OF THE GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY – Many of our volunteers are headed south for warmer weather, so we need drivers and visitors in both Lehigh and Northampton Counties. In Lehigh mostly Allentown and Whitehall routes are available, while in Northampton mostly Easton openings with some Bethlehem routes as well.  Volunteers can help on a regular or substitute basis – we need both!
