CENTER FOR CAREEER PATHWAYS & LITERACY (LCCC), Allentown is looking for volunteer tutors (age 22+) for its adult literacy program. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with adults looking to improve their academic skills in various subjects in order to obtain their high school equivalency. Volunteers must have a bachelor’s degree in any field, be able to make a commitment of 3 hours per week, attain clearances, and have a flexible schedule. CENTER FOR VISION LOSS, Whitehall needs volunteers to assist clients with visual impairment during a weekly walk at the Lehigh Valley Mall every Wednesday from 9-10:30am. All volunteers will be trained in sighted guide procedures. All volunteers must use their own transportation to the Mall and have a current FBI Criminal Background Clearance. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF INDUSTRIAL HISTORY, Bethlehem is looking for volunteers with education experience to lead guided tours for school groups. Curriculum and training provided. SPIRITRUST LUTHERAN HOME CARE & HOSPICE, Allentown needs volunteers to make friendly visits to hospice clients in their own homes, nursing homes, and/or assisted living communities in Lehigh, Berks, and Northampton counties. Upon completion of training, volunteers set their own visit schedules. Some things volunteers do are read to clients, watch TV together, and talk; no medical/nursing skills are needed. THE PERFECT FIT FOR WORKING WOMEN, Allentown is looking for fashion-savvy volunteers to serve as volunteer retail and stock associates in their resale boutique. Volunteers will greet clients, customers, and donors; receive, sort, tag, and hang clothing donations; assist customers with selections, and perform light housekeeping duties, as necessary. THE SALVATION ARMY FOSTER CARE & ADOPTION SERVICES, Allentown is looking for 1-2 long-term volunteers (age 18+) to help on a weekly basis with various clerical duties. Training and support will be provided. Main duties include: filing confidential foster care documents, data entry, and answering phones. Strong computer and communication skills a plus! Minimum of one day per week is preferred; weekday (M-F) schedule is flexible; start asap. Background clearances are required. THE SANCTUARY AT HAAFSVILLE, Breinigsville has many wonderful dogs and cats who would love to spend some time in a real home before they are adopted by their “furever” family. Foster opportunities include short and long-term, emergency situations for power outages or disasters, and for animals recovering from surgery.
