Leaders of human service nonprofits may apply for a fellowship to Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management program

Allentown, PA, January 22, 2019 – United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley is seeking non-profit leaders for the 2020 Harvard Fellowship Program.

Leaders of the Lehigh Valley’s human service nonprofits are eligible to apply for a fellowship to the prestigious Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management program from July 12-18, 2020. This program, valued at $6,500, is possible thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor and United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. The application deadline is Monday, March 2, 2020. The application is available online at www.unitedwayglv.org.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a Lehigh Valley-based CEO, President or Executive Director of a human service nonprofit with a budget of at least $1 million
  • Candidate must be responsible for shaping organizational direction, mission, policies and major programs and must meet Harvard’s program admission criteria
  • Candidates must be in their current role by the program start date
  • Organizations must be fully operational with a minimum of 5-6 full-time employees

The fellowship funds tuition, books, case materials, accommodations and meals. The fellow will learn and benefit from the workshop on behalf of his or her organization and will share their new knowledge with non-profit executives in the Lehigh Valley.

Past attendees used their experience at Harvard to make significant improvements to their organizations. “The most interesting aspect of the program is the people you meet. People attend from around the world bringing a diverse international perspective to the program.  We compare notes with large and small nonprofits about the challenges and opportunities they face and learn from their experiences,” said Lin Erickson, the 2014 Harvard Fellowship recipient and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Da Vinci Science Center.

As a result of the fellowship, we are building a network of alumni who are invited to meet occasionally to share information and successes.  United Way will continue to form a network to support non-profit executives in the Lehigh Valley.
