Emmaus, PA— On Monday January 4, 2021, Jeffrey Dutt, a social studies teacher at Louis E. Dieruff High School and resident of Emmaus, PA, announced his candidacy for the District 5 Lehigh County Commissioner Seat in the upcoming 2021 election.

“After encouragement from many friends, family, and local residents, I have decided to run for this seat,” Dutt said.  Dutt, a Republican, was appointed to the Board of Commissioners of Lehigh County on December 9, 2020 to complete the term of former Commissioner Nathan Brown.

Dutt plans to reach out and to get to know many voters within the district over the next several months.  “I would like to hear their ideas and concerns of how to continue to make Lehigh County a great place to live.”  In the next month, Dutt will release a comprehensive platform for voters to consider that will be focused on the four key priorities:

  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • Preservation of Farmland and Historical Properties
  • Strengthening our Communities
  • Encouraging Job Growth

Dutt, a lifelong resident of Lehigh County, was a 1986 graduate of Whitehall High School.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in 1990.  He then went on and earned his master’s degree in Special Education from Lehigh University in 1993.  He served on the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners from 2016-2019 before moving to Emmaus.  During his time on the board, Dutt voted for and helped pass three “no tax increase” budgets.  He was able to help establish the Whitehall Active Community Center in 2017 and work with many volunteers to build the senior center to the second largest in Lehigh County.

He was also very active in his community.  He was President of the Whitehall Active Community Center, Inc., secretary of the Whitehall Veterans Memorial Committee, member of the MacArthur 75 Committee, and member of the Fall Festival Committee.  While he was a commissioner, he was the commissioner liaison to the Whitehall Recreation Commission and the Legal and Legislative Committee.

Dutt has been a teacher in the Allentown School District for the past 18 years.  He was also an adjunct professor in both sociology and education at Lehigh Carbon Community College and DeSales University for 17 years.  He met his wife, Nancy, in 1990 and has been married to her for the past 27 years.

The District 5 seat represents Coopersburg, Emmaus, Macungie, Lower Milford, Salisbury, Upper Milford and Upper Saucon townships, and parts of Allentown.
