Lehigh Valley, PA – The Lehigh Valley Justice Institute has issued a statement in response to the guilty verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin. The following can be attributed to Executive Director Joseph Welsh:

“We hope this verdict heralds in a new era of accountability and opens everyone’s eyes to the need for a reimagined approach to the policing function, starting with the passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

“Our hearts and admiration go out to the George Floyd family for their almost yearlong tireless quest for justice, having to relive this horror day after day.

“To honor the memory of George Floyd, we call upon all people of good will to redouble their efforts to move our criminal justice system to one which focuses on restorative justice, and serves all of our communities.”
