The incident has prompted enhanced safety measures to better protect visitors and staff.

ALLENTOWN, PA – Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center is making security upgrades to its building after a recent break-in.

The Allentown Police Department is investigating the incident, which happened sometime between the late evening of Monday, June 6 and the early morning of Tuesday, June 7. The ground and main floors of the building were vandalized, and cash from the center’s donation box was stolen. No one from the team was harmed, since no staff members were at the center at the time of the incident.

Damage inside the building was minimal and did not disrupt business operations significantly. The center, along with Valley Youth House (which rents the building’s ground floor for Project Silk Lehigh Valley), worked with investigators as they inspected the building.

In response to the break-in, the center is working with a local security company to better ensure the safety of everyone who works in or visits the building. The plan includes redesigning our system to include 24/7 surveillance cameras and motion detectors, among other elements.

“This was a despicable violation of our space and our trust,” said Bill McGlinn, interim executive director at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center. “The LGBTQ+ community continues to face attacks, especially during Pride Month. We remain committed to the safety and security of all who come to the center.”

The center directs all questions about the investigation to the Allentown Police Department.
