(ALLENTOWN, PA) – The Allentown Rescue Mission is pleased to announce it received a $15,120 donation from Grace Church Bethlehem to replace its’ aging kitchen floor. The donation resulted from the church’s special offering at its Christmas Eve Service 2021.

With the donation, the Allentown Rescue Mission was able to renovate the entire kitchen and serving area floor. The worn-out tiles and subfloor were removed and replaced with a new subfloor and a commercial epoxy coat floor making the area safer and cleaner for kitchen staff and the men residing at the Mission.

“It looks like a new kitchen. No matter how many times you nailed down a tile on the old floor, another tile was always popping up. The new floor is seamless, nonstick, and easy to clean. I am so grateful for what Grace Church has done for us,” stated Francisco Ortiz, Food Service Manager of the Allentown Rescue Mission.

As part of Grace Church’s mission, it seeks to help those less fortunate by donating to local non-profit organizations. “On the night where the baby Jesus had no place to lay his head, we look to serve those without a place to lay theirs,” explained Dr. Marnie Crumpler, Senior Pastor, about the Christmas Eve collection.

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown Rescue Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above PA state minimum wage– helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. In a typical year, the Allentown Rescue Mission provides shelter services for over 946 men per year, and serves over 42,000 meals a year to men in need.
