The free family-friendly event creates an immersive old fashioned Christmas experience

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (November 30, 2022) – Downtown Bethlehem has partnered with Touchstone Theater and Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites to add a new layer to its annual Live Advent Calendar. It’s the first time in its 14 years that the event will have costumed actors using a Dickens’ style script and theater production equipment up and down Main St. for an immersive experience. Every evening at 5:30 from December 1st – 23rd, the “town criers” will ring bells and call for visitors to gather ‘round the Goundie House, which is the oldest house on Main St. Then, a child from the crowd will be invited to knock on the door, and everyone will be surprised with a performance and a little treat. Each night, a different business will sponsor the event as a gift to the community. East Stroudsburg University will sponsor the first night.

This free, family-friendly event is the only one of its kind in the country and possibly the world. Downtown Bethlehem Association (DBA) Manager Kelly Smith said, “The Live Advent Calendar is a big reason people come downtown during the holidays. This year will be an extra special production to really give everyone that old-timey Christmas feeling.”  Smith and DBA Assistant Manager Ty Versocki will be at the Goundie House as hosts to welcome and thank everyone for joining in on the fun.
