Nonprofit campaign is nearly half way to $100,000 goal.

ALLENTOWN, PA – June 18, 2025 – It’s been almost a year since The Literacy Center lost its home in downtown Allentown to a three-alarm fire. To help raise money for new equipment and furniture, the “Rising from the Ashes” campaign was launched in February with a $100,000 fundraising goal.

As part of the campaign, The Literacy Center held its “Rising from the Ashes” event on May 22. Over 100 people attended the fundraiser at Muhlenberg College where the organization thanked the firefighters and first responders who battled the blaze last summer. The lead sponsors were PPL and Just Born, and the following awards were presented:

  • The Phoenix Award was presented by PPL to the Lehigh Valley region’s firefighters and first responders, and was accepted on their behalf by Allentown Fire Chief Efrain Agosto.
  • The Honorable Peter Schweyer was named this year’s Champion of Literacy.
  • The Community Partner of the Year was DeSales University.
  • The inaugural Gayle M. & Thomas R. Cichocki Impact Award was presented to Mr. & Mrs. Thomas & Gayle Cichocki.

Event sponsorships and onsite donations have brought the organization just over half way to its goal. Donations to the Rising from the Ashes campaign can still be made online: https://theliteracycenter-lv.org/rising-from-the-ashes/
