Albright College to host 2026 Berks County Interscholastic Mathematics Championship on March 4

READING, PA – March 2, 2026 – Albright College will host competing students from ten Berks County high schools for the 2025-26 Berks County Interscholastic Mathematics Championship on Wednesday, March 4.

Held for over 30 years, the annual event is sponsored by the Higher Education Council of Berks County, which is comprised of the county’s five institutions of higher learning — Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks and Reading Area Community College.

While not open to spectators, all Berks County high schools are invited to the competition, which rotates its location among the council members. This year, math competitors will come from Conrad Weiser High School, Daniel Boone High School, Fleetwood High School, Governor Mifflin High School, Kutztown Area High School, Muhlenberg High School, Oley Valley High School, Schuylkill Valley High School, Wilson High School and Wyomissing High School.

The competition tests students in both team and individual formats. Three-person teams work through a written exam covering algebra, trigonometry and other advanced math concepts, while individual competitors tackle a separate exam focused on challenging mathematical applications. Winners receive prizes, individual recognition and the competition’s traveling trophy, engraved with the names of every champion since 1991, which they will hold until next year’s event.

The championship has deep roots in Berks County, originally launched in 1960 by the Berks County Math Teachers Association. After a pause, it was revived in 1991 with a clear mission: to encourage students to pursue careers in math and science, foster academic excellence, build school spirit, and recognize mathematically talented young people.

Albright is thrilled to be the host for the March 4 event, which is only the second competition since a three-year hiatus (from 2020 through 2023) due to the COVID pandemic.
