Clean Team Workforce April Employee of the Month

(ALLENTOWN, PA) – The Clean Team Workforce congratulates its Employee of the Month for April, Troy D.

Troy lived in the Upper Perkiomen Valley area his entire life before coming to the Allentown Rescue Mission. He graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School and enjoyed what he described as a “normal life” with his parents and three older siblings.

Troy worked various jobs over his lifetime, but in 2009, he left full-time employment to care for his ailing parents. For fifteen years, he cared for his parents while working part-time jobs. His mother passed away during the pandemic, and his father a year later.

Unfortunately, Troy’s parents didn’t prepare a will. In the end, Troy defaulted on the mortgage of his parents’ home. He had little money and nowhere to go after the house was lost. Troy’s niece told him about the Allentown Rescue Mission, and he decided it could be a good place for him.

While in the Emergency Shelter, Troy discovered that the Mission’s Transformation Program not only taught life skills, workforce development, and Bible classes, but also offered men a job on the Clean Team Workforce after graduating from the program. Joining the Transformation Program seemed like the “perfect solution” to jumpstart his new life and career.

Troy devoted himself to the Transformation Program. He learned more about himself by learning more about God. He was a model student, always inquisitive, kind, and helpful to others.

After graduation, Troy joined the Clean Team Workforce. From the start, he proved to be flexible and a hard worker. “I don’t favor one job over another as each can be a positive and rewarding challenge,” he stated.

Troy’s number one goal is to save money so he can return to a stable life. With his positive attitude and trust in the Lord, the Allentown Rescue Mission knows Troy can have a bright future.

The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 145 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter to men in crisis since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown Rescue Mission offers a faith-based residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that’s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above PA state minimum wage– helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community. In a typical year, the Allentown Rescue Mission provides shelter services for nearly 1,000 men and serves more than 60,000 meals to men in need.
