What YOU Need to Know About Data Centers Date: Thursday, May 14th

The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County will conduct a panel discussion on the topic of “data centers.”

As is our policy; we are not taking a stand on data centers; but “empowering voters” by providing real life information. For example: what is the state doing to develop guardrails for the develoment of these centers; which will be addressed by Rep. Mike Schlossberg (D) 132nd, Majority Whip, who has the possibility of two data centers in his district. Rep. Schlossberg will give an update on recent legislation that has passed and is being introduced.

Attorney Blake Marles, who has been a township solicitor for over 40 years and now working on the development side; will explain the rights of citizens as well as the rights of property owners/developers. The intricate process for approval will also be clarified by attorney Marles.

Planner, Mr. Richard Roseberry, PE, AICP – A professional with years of experience will walk us through the planning process and how every data center must have their plans reviewed by the local planning commission, as is happening with our Lehigh Valley Planning Commission (LVPC).

We will also hear from an environmental attorney, Ms. Kathryn Urbanowicz, Deputy Director of the Clean Air Council of Philadelphia, who along with the The Clean Energy Group and, the Physicians for Social Responsibility, authored a report entitled:

The High Cost of AI – How Data Centers are Reshaping Pennsylvania’s Energy Landscape”

There will be a Q & A period as well. Our goal is to develop a more informed community; where residents will know what questions to ask if their municipality is considering permits from data center developers. This is a complex issue and we are hoping to develop an informed electorate.
