Introduced in 2017, the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation was set to serve college bound students in the five school districts of Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Northampton Area, Parkland and LCTI.<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>The 2020 recipients of this $500 scholarship include: Benjamin Dobbs (Parkland School District), Nathan Green (LCTI), Dario James Walnock (Northampton Area School District), Samuel Weaber (Northern Lehigh School District) and Jacob Dellicker (Northwestern Lehigh School District).<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Applicants must be use the funds to continue their education and must have a clean school record with no disciplinary infractions. Additionally, each student must have at least a \u201cC\u201d grade average or better and be involved with extra-curricular activities and show work and\/or volunteer experience.\u00a0<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Members of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce are committed to our communities in many ways, and our scholarship fund is supported by our members and board of directors through the various fund raising efforts during the year,\u201d said Andy Gildner, Board Chair of Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber and owner of Keystone Technology LLC. \u201cWe had many applications, helping to concrete our belief that this scholarship is a necessary and welcome tool for our students. Our board and members are committed to helping further the educational opportunities available to our local students, and we personally congratulate our scholarship winners!&#8221;<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber was blown away by our applicants this year,\u201d added Kylie Adams, Manager of Affiliated Chambers for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. \u201cThe Chamber\u2019s scholarship fund has been an important initiative to support our future business and community leaders \u2013 we see this as an important investment in the future of our community. The gentlemen receiving this year\u2019s awards have distinguished themselves within our community, and we look forward to seeing what they do next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each recipient graduated in 2020 with excellent academic records and will continue on to higher education. Benjamin Dobbs, of Parkland, will attend University of Delaware to study Business and Environmental Policy, and was extremely active within various clubs at Parkland. \u201cI have made it a point to bring energy to every activity I participate in,\u201d reads Dobbs\u2019 application. \u201cI\u2019m proud to be called \u2018the dad\u2019 of the clubs in which I have leadership positions.\u201d Dobbs has spent two summers in Philippi, West Virginia with his church youth group building housing extension for financially struggling and disabled citizens, and co-founded \u201cParkland Fighting Cancer,\u201d a fundraising team for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley\u2019s annual 5K event.<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Nathan Green, who attends LCTI and Northern Lehigh, will study Computer Engineering at Drexel University in the fall and is extremely active within the Northern Lehigh community, including helping to organize the Northern Lehigh Food Bank Gift Drive, which distributes gifts to families in need during Christmas. Nathan also participated in the Patriot Club (which fundraised and holds events to honor local veterans), as well as served on the Debate Team and National Honor Society. Green also played baseball for Northern Lehigh. \u201cThis sport taught me the importance of teamwork and trust within a group of people.\u201d<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Dario James Walnock, of Northampton School District, will attend Carnegie Mellon University to study Computational Finance and will play on their Football Team. Dario has distinguished himself as a leader and role model in the classroom and through his various extracurricular activities (football, student government, DECA Business Club, National Honor Society, and lacrosse). \u201cI have done so by being ranked #1 in my class, being the class treasurer, and by being a team captain and scholar athlete on the football field,\u201d says Walnock. \u201cI volunteer as a youth sports volunteer, as well as a Miller-Keystone Blood Drive volunteer.\u201d Dario hopes to be a Quantitative Analyst.<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Samuel Weaber, of Northern Lehigh, will attend LCCC in the fall to begin his degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. \u201cI volunteer at my church to run cameras for the services, special conferences, concerts and special events,\u201d stated Weaber in his application. \u201cIn the past, recordings were used on WFMZ Channel 69\u2019s <i>Statement of Faith<\/i> program, and now is used to do a live stream.\u201d Weaber interned with Dorward Electic Corp, in Slatington, and was now works there part-time.<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Jacob Dellicker, of Northwestern School District, will study Entrepreneurship at Grove City College. Jacob has been active in his church, as well as volunteered at the Special Olympics and in clearing trails at Hawk Mountain. Additionally, Jacob served as Varsity Captain of the Golf team, Senior Captain of the Wrestling team, as well as playing on the Baseball team; he also served as Student Council President. \u201cAs Student Council President, I organized various events such as the pep rally and \u2018Mr. Northwestern,\u2019 an annual charity pageant that occurs each year at our school,\u201d said Dellicker. \u201cI am also the founder of Dellicker Brothers LLC, where I am both owner and manager of the business\u2019 operations. I am responsible for coordinating job sites and giving pricing estimates, as well as managing the day to day operations of the company.\u201d<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to be able to support our future leaders through the GNLCC Scholarship Program!\u00a0 It was quite inspiring to review all of our applicants this year,\u201d said Jessica O\u2019Donnell, EVP of Affiliated Chambers for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. \u201cWe wish the very best to all of our scholarship recipients as they embark on a very important journey in their lives.\u201d<u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>The scholarship recipients will be celebrated, with their families, at the Chamber\u2019s 4<sup>th<\/sup> Annual William George Mini Golf Tournament on August 6<sup>th<\/sup>. The family-friendly event will be held at Bear Rock Junction Mini Golf in New Tripoli and is a fundraiser for the Greater Northern Lehigh Scholarship fund.
