{"id":102244,"date":"2020-08-10T22:30:05","date_gmt":"2020-08-11T02:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=102244"},"modified":"2020-08-10T22:30:05","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T02:30:05","slug":"allentown-art-museum-reopening-august-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=102244","title":{"rendered":"Allentown Art Museum reopening August 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First weekend is for members, public welcomed August 21<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allentown, PA\u2014<\/strong>The Allentown Art Museum is thrilled to welcome visitors back to the galleries in a way that prioritizes the health of members, guests, staff, and volunteers.\u00a0<strong>Friday, August 14, through Sunday, August 16 is opening weekend for Museum members, with the public opening coming a week later, on Friday, August 21<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re ready to bring the healing, restorative power of art back to our community,\u201d says\u00a0<strong>Michelle R. Stringer<\/strong>, the Museum\u2019s Interim President and Chair of the Board of Trustees. \u201cNothing compares to the feeling of immersing yourself in artwork. We are grateful to be able to provide our members and visitors with a safe opportunity to reflect and reenergize again at the Museum.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6>In addition to works from the Museum\u2019s permanent collection, also on display when the doors reopen will be the special exhibitions\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/evolution-of-the-spiritual\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/evolution-of-the-spiritual\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1597198282786000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEHir8FYNbyMEStwcDwtfqfyzqvqQ\">Evolution of the Spiritual: Europe to America<\/a><\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(through September 6), which includes paintings from the Philadelphia Museum of Art as part of the\u00a0<strong>Art Bridges + Terra Foundation Initiative<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/30-years-at-durham-press\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/30-years-at-durham-press\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1597198282786000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGbKtJs4WBIqNXFRmcr6Dmr1fejNQ\">Color &amp; Complexity: 30 Years at Durham Press<\/a><\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(through September 20).<\/h6>\n<p>The galleries and Museum Store will be open\u00a0<strong>new hours: Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/strong>, with free admission on Sundays.\u00a0Also on Sundays,\u00a0ArtVentures activities for families will be held outside on our lawn every Sunday from noon till 3 p.m. beginning August 16, weather permitting.\u00a0The Museum Caf\u00e9 will offer bottled beverages and prepackaged snacks.\u00a0Art Ways Interactive Family Gallery and Crayola Classroom are temporarily closed, but a schedule of virtual programs is planned for fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advanced reservations for Museum entry and ArtVentures participation are encouraged; walk-ins will be welcomed based on availability. Timed ticketing is in place to manage occupancy levels and space out visitors.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Visitors can reserve tickets at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/visit\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/visit\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1597198282786000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG9Rpb4VaDAAZIfG2SaH-_tRj6SWA\">AllentownArtMuseum.com\/visit<\/a>.\u00a0An appropriate face covering is required to gain entry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responding to guidelines provided by city and state officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Museum has instituted the following\u00a0safety precautions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All public and office spaces of the Museum have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and will be maintained frequently, with high-touch surfaces being cleaned continuously.<\/li>\n<li>Social distancing reminders and hand-sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the Museum.<\/li>\n<li>Visitor capacity is limited to 50%.<\/li>\n<li>Plexiglass shields have been installed at the front desk, Store, and Caf\u00e9<\/li>\n<li>Visitor traffic patterns have been revised to promote safe distancing.<\/li>\n<li>Timed ticketing is encouraged to manageoccupancy levels and space out visitors.<\/li>\n<li>Mask are required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even as the galleries reopen, Museum staff will continue to create and post behind-the-scenes happenings, videos, art-making activities for children and families, and virtual programs via Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the Museum\u2019s website through its\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/experience\/museumathome\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.allentownartmuseum.org\/experience\/museumathome\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1597198282786000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEI6-klPYKLHn7HMP4bzgZGFE74CA\">#AAMatHOME page<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>ABOUT THE ALLENTOWN ART MUSEUM<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><em>The Allentown Art Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization\u00a0<\/em>whose mission is to\u00a0use the arts and culture as a catalyst to drive interaction, experimentation, and social change for everyone.
