This event is free and open to the public via pre-registration at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechc.org\/event_calendar\/event_calendar.html\">https:\/\/www.thechc.org\/event_calendar\/event_calendar.html<\/a>. Lyn Becker and Dr. Mary Culshaw will be the facilitators for this event.<\/p>\n<p>Will be presenting via zoom,<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Culshaw is a faculty member in the Master of Occupational Therapy program at Moravian College.\u00a0 An occupational therapist helps people with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working.\u00a0 Dr. Culshaw has worked in several clinical programs over the years, supporting youth with FASD and their families.\u00a0 She is proud of being an occupational therapist in one of the first adult assessment clinics for FASD in Alberta, Canada, advocating for occupational justice for her clients.\u00a0 Occupational justice is the right to participate in meaningful and purposeful activities for an individual despite physical, social, and environmental barriers.<\/p>\n<p>Lyn Becker is a FASD Parent Advocate, Activist, and Educator. Lyn\u2019s activism focuses on the development of a comprehensive system of care for the prevention, identification\/diagnosis and intervention of FASD. At the end of this seminar participants will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Define excessive consumption, alcohol content per drink type.<\/li>\n<li>Recall the history of attitudes of alcohol use during pregnancy vs. current recommendation.<\/li>\n<li>Recall the implications of alcohol use during pregnancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Center for Humanistic Change is a not-for-profit agency that gives community members the knowledge and tools they need to make better-informed and more positive life choices. We do this by providing prevention education and life skills training focusing on decision making for positive choices.\u00a0 For 40 years, CHC has developed and delivered high quality educational programming throughout the Lehigh Valley. Our programs provide individuals with tools that will enhance their personal growth, help them develop strong family units, and understand what is required for caring communities and effective working environments. CHC\u2019s educational philosophy is based on a holistic learning model known as humanistic education, which seeks to engage people intellectually, emotionally, and behaviorally.\u00a0 We believe that people are inherently good and have the potential to live fulfilling lives.\u00a0 We also believe that, given the right tools, individuals can make positive choices and positive changes in their lives, have healthy relationships, and avoid destructive behaviors such as substance abuse, dependence, and violence. We serve individuals of all ages.
