On Christmas some members of Zion\u2019s Liberty Bell United Church of Christ will get up extra early not to open presents under the tree but to serve breakfast at their church to those who are homeless and who stayed overnight in the city\u2019s warming shelter on Martin Luther King Drive.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the homeless, this is just another Friday<\/span> morning, \u201d explains the Rev. Bob Stevens, senior pastor of the church. \u201cAnd it\u2019s our turn to serve breakfast!\u201d\u00a0 Union Baptist Church provides breakfast Mondays through Wednesdays; Zion\u2019s provides breakfast Thursdays through Saturdays; and St. Paul\u2019s Lutheran Church members provide breakfast on Sundays.<\/p>\n The doors open for coffee at 7 a.m.<\/span> with breakfast served by 7:30 a.m.<\/span> \u201cThe breakfast ministry of our churches gives people someplace to go when the Allentown shelter closes at 7:30<\/span> in the morning. A hot cup of coffee and a good breakfast go a long way to starting your day right, whether you\u2019re going job hunting, meeting with your caseworker, or waiting for a drop-in shelter to open,\u201d Pastor Stevens explained.<\/p>\n Zion\u2019s breakfast ministry is a shared mission project in conjunction with St. John\u2019s United Church of Christ, 36 S.
