Renews call to action to legalize adult-use cannabis<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>State Rep. Jake Wheatley has joined Lt. Gov. John Fetterman in urging the legislature to consider his updated measure to legalize adult-use cannabis.<\/p>\n Wheatley, D-Allegheny, said this\u00a0renewed effort<\/a>\u00a0includes a call to action on his website,\u00a0www.repwheatley.com<\/a>, where Pennsylvanians can click on, fill out and automatically send a message to their state representative and state senator and make their voices heard.<\/p>\n \u201cBoth Lieutenant Governor Fetterman and I have heard from thousands of Pennsylvanians over the past few years who have made their support clear for this initiative,\u201d Wheatley said. \u201cNot only would this measure provide millions in much-needed revenue and create jobs, but it also includes a provision to expunge cannabis-related offenses for non-violent offenders. My bill would also be a boon to our agriculture industry and support grant programs to help our communities and our minority- and women-owned businesses. The governor is also on board with legalizing adult-use cannabis because he also sees its multi-pronged benefits to our great state. Bottom line: Pennsylvanians have waited long enough \u2013 it\u2019s time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s time for legal weed in Pa.,\u201d Fetterman said. \u201cThis is common sense criminal justice reform that will also generate billions when Pennsylvanians need it the most. It\u2019s time to stop spending millions per year to ruin the lives of taxpayers who get caught doing something that most people don\u2019t even think should be illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n “Time and time again, I have urged my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers to join me in discussing my efforts and any questions or concerns they have about the bill,\u201d Wheatley added. \u201cWith budget season underway, this additional revenue could be beneficial to helping our communities, which have been ravaged by the pandemic.
