{"id":105546,"date":"2021-02-26T23:31:59","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T04:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=105546"},"modified":"2021-02-26T23:31:59","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T04:31:59","slug":"allentown-citizens-police-academy-spanish-language-edition-scheduled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=105546","title":{"rendered":"ALLENTOWN CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY SPANISH-LANGUAGE EDITION SCHEDULED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Allentown Police Department is accepting applications for its first Spanish-language edition Citizens Police Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Ray O\u2019Connell, City Council Vice President Cynthia Mota and Police Chief Glenn Granitz Jr. made the announcement this afternoon at a news conference in City Council Chambers.<\/p>\n<p>This training is not designed to certify citizens to perform Law Enforcement services. Its purpose is to enhance community relations and provide citizens with insight into the Criminal Justice System.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connell said, \u201cIn the past we have found that many citizens have simply seen a uniform, but through this program we hope now our Spanish-speaking residents can gain a better understanding about the rules, regulations and policies the police follow and come to understand the person behind the badge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The Academy will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning the first week of May 2021 for a period of several weeks.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The academy classes will be held at the Allentown Police Academy, 2110 Park Drive, Allentown, PA 18103.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Crime Scene Processing<\/li>\n<li>K9\/Explosives Dog Demonstration<\/li>\n<li>Youth Division<\/li>\n<li>School Resource Officers<\/li>\n<li>Defensive Tactics &#8211; Use of Force<\/li>\n<li>Traffic &#8211; Bikes, Motorcycles &amp; DUI Arrests<\/li>\n<li>Criminal Investigations<\/li>\n<li>Emergency Response Team<\/li>\n<li>Police Scenarios<\/li>\n<li>History of the Academy &#8211; Training, Certifications, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Vice &amp; Intelligence Search and Seizure<\/li>\n<li>Firearms &amp; Firearms Safety<\/li>\n<li>Emergency Vehicle Operation<\/li>\n<li>Gang Unit<\/li>\n<li>Lehigh County Coroner<\/li>\n<li>APD Hiring Process, Polygraph, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Computer Crime Lab<\/li>\n<li>Body-Worn and In-Car Cameras<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Information and applications can be found on the Allentown Police website &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allentownpa.gov\/Police\/Police-Academy\/Citizens-Police-Academy\">https:\/\/www.allentownpa.gov\/Police\/Police-Academy\/Citizens-Police-Academy<\/a>\u00a0 or at the City Hall Information Desk.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be accepted until Friday, March 12, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>For questions, contact the APD Community Outreach Division at 610-437-7721 ext. 2 \u00a0or email <a href=\"mailto:APDcommunity@allentownpa.gov\">APDcommunity@allentownpa.gov<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Attendance is limited.
