Join supporters of the Allentown School District Foundation on March 31 and see a\u00a0fun filled review of ten years of the High Notes Gala performances, hosted by high school students live! If you are\u00a0suffering from \u2018digital event fatigue,\u2019 we promise the 11th Annual HIGH NOTES Gala will be a fun, fast-paced affair\u00a0\u00a0that you can watch in the comfort of your own home during the week. It will remind you that Allentown students\u00a0are very talented!<\/p>\n
\u201cAs gathering in person for large events is not possible, for now, we turn to technology to help us fundraise, to\u00a0recognize the creativity of our students and to celebrate the value of our public school system,\u201d says Dan Bosket,\u00a0ASDF President.<\/p>\n
The Show<\/u>
\nThis year, the annual Gala is being transformed into a digital show, entitled \u201cA Virtual Reality,\u201d with an opening date\u00a0of Wednesday, March 31, 2021, starting at 8:30 p.m., for a short and fantastic review. Mark your calendar!<\/p>\n
This Foundation-sponsored production will showcase the school spirit of the City\u2019s public school system, teacher\u00a0and student creativity, and the District\u2019s rich diversity. Each year, the Gala production features more than 120\u00a0students from William Allen High School, Louis E. Dieruff High School, and Trexler, Harrison-Morton, South\u00a0Mountain and Raub Middle Schools. Students unite to open and close the show while promoting and celebrating\u00a0the diversity that makes up the Allentown School District. This production is filled with short acts and music from\u00a0Allentown\u2019s best student performance groups with some memorable openers and show finales. Groups include the\u00a0Canary Cavaliers Jazz Band, the WAHS Dance Academy, Dieruff\u2019s Select Choir, Dieruff Jazz Band, WAHS Chorale and\u00a0award-winning theatre students performing snippets from the 2011-2019 spring musicals.<\/p>\n
2020-2021 Accomplishments<\/u>
\nWhile the Foundation\u2019s official mission is to encourage, promote, support and fund positive educational experiences
\nfor students in the Allentown School District, this year the Foundation focused on providing solutions for students
\nand teachers who have witnessed challenges with the development of A Virtual Campus for remote learning. Some
\nnotable ASDF accomplishments:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0The Foundation raised the funds to purchase face masks for every student and teacher in every school
\nwith their school\u2019s mascot proudly inscribed on it.
\n\u2022 The Foundation supported the school district in the development efforts needed to acquire WiFi hot
\nspots and technology tools for students working from home.
\n\u2022 Julie K. Ambrose, Ph.D., has been appointed the new executive director, relieving Susan L. Williams of
\nher duties after serving five years.<\/p>\n
