MOWGLV’s celebration will include various activities throughout the month of March, including special social media postings, outreach to local and state legislators, and sharing stories from clients on what Meals on Wheels means to them.

“MOWGLV has been an integral part of the Lehigh Valley for 50 years,” said Vicki Coyle, CEO of Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley. “In the last year, MOWGLV volunteers, and our community, have redefined the phrase ‘care and compassion.’ They have adapted to so much change, given more, and put themselves at risk with no interruption in services to our clients. Yet, we have more to do. We don’t reach all the seniors who need us. I have confidence that our team, and our community, will do more to help more with the same dedication and support that MOWGLV is known for”.

The annual March for Meals celebration commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. Since 2002, community-based Meals on Wheels programs from across the country have joined forces for the annual awareness campaign to celebrate this successful public-private partnership and garner the support needed to fill the gap between the seniors served and those still in need.

“The pandemic has introduced many of us to the newfound and harsh realities of food insecurity and social isolation – something that far too many seniors experience as their daily norm. More than ever, we must rally around our essential community-based programs that serve as lifelines to a growing number of people in need, to enable their own long-term vitality,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of Meals on Wheels America. “Even when we make it through this unprecedented time in our nation’s history, there will still be millions of vulnerable older adults who will rely on that familiar knock on the door that provides peace of mind and hope beyond the meal itself. Please join us in celebrating the power and importance of Meals on Wheels this March and always.”

For more information on how you can volunteer, contribute or speak out for the seniors in the Lehigh Valley this March, visit www.mowglv.org.

Mission of Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley
The mission of Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley is to provide homebound seniors and adults with disabilities with freshly prepared nutritious meals, wellness checks and social visits so they can eat well, stay socially connected and remain living independently for as long as they can. Information specifically about how the agency is handling the COVID-19 virus can be found on their website: https://mowglv.org/news/

Information Provided By:
Keri Young
Communications Specialist
Meals On Wheels of The Greater Lehigh Valley
4240 Fritch Drive, Bethlehem PA 18020
www.mowglv.org

 Meals on Wheels of the greater Lehigh valley JOINS IN MONTH-LONG March for Meals CELEBRATION WITH COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE Bethlehem, PA March 4, 2021 – Meals on Wheels of the … Continue reading MEALS ON WHEELS “MARCHES” FOR SENIORS →

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[69,482

post-105621","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-in-the-valley","category-press-release-2
