{"id":10631,"date":"2016-01-11T15:48:49","date_gmt":"2016-01-11T20:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=10631"},"modified":"2016-01-11T15:48:49","modified_gmt":"2016-01-11T20:48:49","slug":"nominate-an-outstanding-youth-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=10631","title":{"rendered":"NOMINATE AN OUTSTANDING YOUTH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The City of Allentown is looking to honor outstanding young persons in the community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2012, the<strong><span data-term=\"goog_999801968\"> \u201cCatch a <\/span>Young Person Doing Something Right\u201d<\/strong> campaign is a way to recognize the numerous young people who contribute to the well-being of Allentown.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mayor Ed Pawlowski, \u201cAllentown is fortunate to have many committed individuals and that desire extends to our young residents too.\u00a0 The campaign is a way of showing our appreciation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Residents are encouraged to submit names of youth they\u2019ve \u201ccaught doing something right\u201d in one of the following three categories:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Volunteerism <\/strong>\u2013 For assisting someone or improving a neighborhood or the community in general.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Scholastic Achievement<\/strong> \u2013 Notable academic improvement and\/or academic excellence.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Going Over and Beyond the Call of Duty<\/strong> \u2013 for doing more than following the rules, such as making a good decision even when peers chose otherwise.\u00a0 For showing leadership skills, critical thinking, problem solving, maturity or conflict resolution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Youth ages 7-18 years old, group nominations are welcomed; persons may not nominate themselves or a family member; nominees must live in Allentown or attend school in Allentown; scholastic achievement nominations must be for an Allentown school; only one nomination is permitted per person.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations are due by February 3, 2016.
