{"id":106406,"date":"2021-04-22T22:14:18","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T02:14:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=106406"},"modified":"2021-04-22T22:14:18","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T02:14:18","slug":"summer-learning-grants-available-now-for-community-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=106406","title":{"rendered":"Summer Learning Grants Available Now for Community Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley offers grants from $1,000-5,000 to support summer learning experiences for Lehigh Valley kids.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Allentown, PA, April 22, 2021<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 To provide expanded summer learning opportunities for Lehigh Valley kids, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) will offer grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to community-based organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic has been difficult on our students, and remote learning has affected their emotional and mental health. That is why summer learning efforts are crucial this year to supporting our students\u2019 well-being and why we offer opportunities to learn, play and heal,\u201d said Akshara Vivekananthan, Assistant Director, Education, UWGLV.<\/p>\n<p>Made possible with financial support from Crayola, the\u00a02021 Community-Based Summer Learning Microgrant Program is designed to support the summer learning efforts of 501c(3) organizations serving Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>blend\u00a0academic instruction with enrichment\u00a0activities;<\/li>\n<li>integrate recreational, cultural, and\/or enrichment\u00a0activities;<\/li>\n<li>focus on social-emotional learning and building positive relationships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis microgrant program reflects a new pilot for our United Way focused on advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. By eliminating extensive qualification criteria, our goal is to engage with organizations in purposeful activities taking place around our community this summer to support our students,\u201d added Vivekananthan.<\/p>\n<p>The application is now available at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedwayglv.org\/see-the-impact\/education\/summer-learning\/2021-summer-learning-microgrant-program\">www.unitedwayglv.org<\/a>, and the deadline to apply is Friday, May 7.
