Easton, PA \u2013 May 27, 2021 \u2013 The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded ProJeCt of Easton, Inc <\/strong>a $9,000.00 grant to support family literacy. This local grant is part of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation\u2019s recent award of $10.5 million donation to support summer, family, and adult literacy programs, representing the organization\u2019s largest one-day grant donation in its 28-year history.<\/p>\n \u201cProJeCt of Easton, Inc.\u2019s mission is to \u201cbuild a better community by helping people to help themselves\u201d and education is key. ProJeCt offer adults and families a holistic, \u201ccradle to career\u201d support system that enables them to meet their most basic needs, advance their education, and find a future that includes college, training, citizenship and careers. Komisor, CEO\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n “For nearly 30 years, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has been proud to invest in literacy and education programs in our hometown communities,” said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “The recent and significant shifts in the educational landscape have made the Foundation\u2019s mission more critically important. As we work to create access to high-quality instruction for all individuals, we share our gratitude for the educators who are working to uplift and empower others. We hope these funds will have a meaningful impact on students and teachers across the country and look forward to seeing the positive impact they have on learners.\u201d<\/p>\n The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports organizations that increase access to educational programming, stimulate and enable innovation in the delivery of educational instruction and inspire a love of reading. Each year, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards funds to nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs. The Foundation also offers a student referral program for individuals interested in learning how to read, speak English, or prepare for the high school equivalency exam. Referrals to a local organization that provides free literacy services are available online here <\/a>or through referral cards found in the Learn to Read brochures that are available at the cash register of every Dollar General store.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n About ProJeCt of Easton, Inc.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n ProJeCt\u2019s Success Academy provides a Family Literacy Program that recognizes that a parent\u2019s literacy, attitudes, and beliefs toward education significantly impact their children. Using the nationally-recognized, research-based Kenan Model, our program breaks the inter-generational cycle of low literacy and economic disadvantage by providing four integrated program components including: adult literacy education, parenting education and support, high quality pre-school and structured parent\/child literacy opportunities. This \u201cteach the parent\/reach the child\u201d model assists parents in becoming the first and most important teacher of their children and promotes the child\u2019s success in school, while also advancing the parent\u2019s ability to advance educationally and economically.
